Self Lighting Candle
By Jolyon Jenkins
In The Wizards' Journal #4, there is an e-Book showing how
to make a self-lighting candle that requires you to push
a button or work an on-off switch to light a candle
electrically. Jolyon Jenkins takes the concept a step
further and provides detailed plans to build a radio
control receiver into a pillar candle and link it to a
keychain transmitter so you can light the candle
remotely. So really, it is a Self-Contained
Self-Lighting Radio-Controlled Candle. Now that's spooky!
Note: This is an e-Book of
instructions for building the effect, and not the actual
prop itself. You make the device following photos and
instructions and get the parts from sources suggested by
the author. Total cost in British pounds was a little
less than £20 which is a little less than $32.00 in US
Dollars (2011 values).
The video shows the actual candle and
how it lights itself by pushing the button of a radio
controlled transmitter. This can be used for seances,
haunted houses, ghost hunts, Sefalaljia, or Wizard Magic.
This project is good for beginners to
electronic magic, or Magi-tronics as we like to
call it. For a more advanced Self Lighting candle that
can relight itself as often as you wish without resetting
it, see Jenkins' Relightable Candle HERE.
