Kards for Kids

by B. Robert Pulver

The Chronicles of Card-nia

This effect is based on C.S. Lewis’ famous children’s book, “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.”  The popularity of the recent film version certainly makes this a timely theme.  However, you need not worry that this will be “yesterday’s news” in 6-12 months since the Narnia books have been classics in children’s literature for approximately 50 years.

The Effect:

Cards depicting four different children are shown.  Each child enters the wardrobe one after the other.  The child’s image is replaced by that of the wardrobe.  The backs of the cards are shown.  They all sport images of the lion.  Finally, the cards change into four different mythical creatures: a Faun, Centaur, Pegasus, and Griffon.

Disclaimer: This effect requires custom-printed gaff cards. Instructions are provided for making simple and inexpensive versions. However, knowledge of and experience in card-splitting and/or other techniques for creating/printing custom-made gaff cards are recommended if a professional quality card is desired.
