The "I Hate Card Tricks"

Book of Card Tricks

Volume 1

by B. Robert Pulver

Twisted Sister

This effect (not to be confused with John Bannon’s “Twisted Sisters”) is my take on the “Twister” illusion performed using a standard playing card.

The Effect:

You show a Queen, introducing her as your assistant.  The spectator can verify that the card is solid and can even sign the back.  The Queen is secured into a playing card “cabinet.”  Defying the laws of physics, you twist her head a full 360 degrees.  As if that isn’t enough, you keep twisting her head around and around.

The cabinet is opened to reveal that the card is still whole.  The real kicker, however, is that the printed design on the card has actually changed.  The card now shows the Queen’s middle section twisted into a tight spiral.

The “twisted” card can be given to the spectator as a memorable souvenir.

Disclaimer: This effect requires a custom-printed gaff card. Instructions are provided for making a simple and inexpensive version. However, knowledge of and experience in card-splitting and/or other techniques for creating/printing custom-made gaff cards are recommended if a professional quality card is desired.
