The Mismade Queen

This effect is inspired by Chuck Jones’ classic illusion, “The Mismade Girl.”  The magician recreates the effect in miniature using playing cards.  Instead of restoring the girl back to normal, however, I’ve given the effect a kicker ending sure to boggle your spectator’s mind.

The Effect:

You introduce your assistant (the Queen of Clubs) and show a playing card “cabinet.”  You place the assistant into the cabinet.  The assistant is magically separated in multiple pieces, which are scattered about on the “stage.”

You return the pieces into the cabinet, but absent-mindedly place them in the wrong order.  You explain to the spectator that you will restore your assistant to her previous, intact state.  Your assistant emerges as a wholly restored card, but since you placed the pieces in the wrong order, she is now “mismade.”

Both the mismade assistant and the cabinet can be immediately handed out for examination.

Includes instructions for making your own 2-way, 3-way, or 4-way mismade cards.  You can even put one of the pieces face-down so that the resulting mismade card is also partially “inside-out.”

Disclaimer: This effect requires a custom-printed gaff card. Instructions are provided for making a simple and inexpensive version. However, knowledge of and experience in card-splitting and/or other techniques for creating/printing custom-made gaff cards are recommended if a professional quality card is desired.
