Coin to Sealed Candy Bag

Start by awarding a child an "official" I was Caught Being Good plastic coin. Have the child initial one side of the coin and you initial the other side of the coin (or you can apply Halloween stickers and initial those instead). While you hold the coin in your hand, the child freely chooses a bag of candy (like our choice of Super Chewy Gummy Rats shown in the photo) from a basket filled with candy bags. As soon as the choice is made, the coin vanishes from your hand. The child tears open the bag and dumps out the candy to discover the coin, still containing both sets of initials, inside the sealed bag of candy. The child gets to keep the candy and the coin as souvenirs.

Wrong Ring Revisited

Based on a 1998 effect by Ali Bongo, this Halloweenized version finds a child choosing a Halloween ring from a selection of rings on display. Once the ring is chosen, the child's name is "engraved" on the ring with a marking pen just so she won't lose it. Then you wrap up the ring and put it into a black box, which is then put into an orange box... or is it the other way around? Starting over, you have the child unwrap the ring and it has changed into a different ring altogether. It's the WRONG RING! So now the ring gets wrapped up again and this time the orange box is put into the black box (yes, it's Lublor Fiedler's Gozinta Boxes in a miniature ring box size that you make yourself, following our directions). This time, when the child unwraps the ring, it has turned back into the "engraved" ring chosen by the child.

Chomping Teeth

This is sort of a “Bank Night” effect for kids. Halloween invitations are inserted into envelopes by several helpers. You lay down the invitation envelopes and one by one have the helpers wind up and set the teeth to walking around on the envelopes. Whichever envelope the teeth end up on (or nearest) is opened, and it is discovered that the invitation has been all chopped up as if bitten by chattering teeth. When only one envelope is left, it is opened and found to be the invitation inviting all the kids to your Halloween Party… so let’s get this party started! As an added attraction, you might have adults dressed up as the other monsters you invited to the party and arrange to have them make an entrance at that moment and join the kids at the party, a good way to get parents involved and participating.

Hallow-Paddles

A combination of paddle moves with a Hippity-Hop Dracula theme for Halloween turns these noisy noisemakers into just the thing to liven up any magic show. When Halloween is over, redecorate for the next season or for everyday use at birthday parties, etc.

Porcupine Ball Magic

These aren't limited to Halloween because they do come in all colors, but these orange and black "porcupine" balls are excellent for performing both sponge ball magic and billiard ball magic. If you wish, you can end by turning them into all colors of the rainbow. You'll need to learn a few new moves that aren't possible with sponge balls but which work well with these porcupine balls. You can also toss these back and forth more easily than you can with sponge balls and you can even juggle them because they have more weight.

Eyeball Catch

When I saw these eyeball paddles for Halloween, I was immediately reminded of Zone Zero by the late Jerry Andrus , in which a plastic sheet with a hole in it is used to make a ball (or any round object like an apple, or orange, etc.) appear and disappear when tossed into or pulled out of the hole in the center. I will NOT be explaining how that is done (buy the DVD), but I WILL be explaining how to use the paddle instead of the plastic sheet PLUS where to continue Zone Zero from there... additional ways to make the eyeball appear and disappear, turning the paddle into a CHANGE PADDLE without a bag, and so on. Once you know Zone Zero, this is the next locical step!

Oh Dracula!

Back in the 1920s, Doc Nixon released a card and silk trick called "Oh Joker." Here it is again, brought back to life as "Oh Dracula!" It's an "in your hands" three card monte...sort of. The Dracula card has a blue back and the other monster cards have red backs. What makes it so wierd is that the cards are wrapped with a silk wound into a rope. Dracula disappears, leaving only a vampire bat on his blue backed card. But wait! Open the white silk (shroud) and there is Dracula's image printed on the silk. The image is made to disappear from the silk and ends up...surprise! On a card again, but now on the back of a spectator!

Halloween Rubber Band Magic

This e-Book contains a variety of ways to include the new rubber wrist bands and bracelets in your rubberband magic repertoire, including new ways to perform the linking rubber bands reminiscent of metal linking rings routines, but close up and in the hands and faces of spectators.

Haunted House Production Box

In using this craft project from the Oriental Trading Company, I’m simply showing you how to take any box-like structure and turn it into a production prop. After all, if you can produce scads of silks and flowers and a live rabbit from a borrowed top hat, what’s so hard about using a box that looks like a Haunted House? The only challenge is making the production fit the theme by producing ghosts and goblins and things that go bump in the night, as befits a Haunted House.

Halloween Coloring Books

It goes without saying that you can easily turn any of these into a standard "Magic Coloring Book" as originally described in 1574 and used by magicians through the ages ever since. But you'll notice that these little coloring books are 5 x 7 " which makes them about the same size as jumbo playing cards. Does that give you any new thoughts? They are also inexpensive enough to give away to your helpers. More thoughts? More excitement? If not, move along, there's nothing here for you to see.

Skeleton Sticker Magic

Skeleton Sticker parts disappear off a sheet of stickers and reappear on jumbo cards. There are many ways you can use these Skeleton stickers and I provide two effects just to start your creative juices flowing. I also provide optional templates for making your own jumbo cards from scratch or for pasting onto standard jumbo cards you may have lying around.

Oriental Trading Company also makes Santa Claus stickers that can be used for this effect, and once you get the idea you can even make up your own stickers for even more themes.

Pumpkin Bag Magic

When I saw this handy little Pumpkin Trick or Treat Bag from Oriental Trading Company, I jumped at the chance to dump my old egg bag and start fresh. Who keeps eggs in a bag anyway? Bags are for Trick Or Treat goodies, and it makes more sense to produce tiny pumpkins than eggs. OK, they also have a bag like this for Christmas, but Christmas goodies have to be carried in something, don't they? So now I'm looking for more bags and more seasons to fill with goodies other than eggs. OK, maybe for Easter I'll go back to Easter eggs, but they'll be all decorated and not the plain white kind. This is more fun than a bag full of monkeys! Hey! Another idea!
