Magi-tronics Book 1

These effects all require some knowledge of electronics. It is assumed you know how to solder electronic components and can read simple electronic diagrams. It is not really meant for beginners, although you have to start somewhere. If you enjoy hanging around Radio Shack or other electronic stores, and know the difference between a diode and a transistor you might be able to build these projects. The authors will endeavor to help make things clear, but they can't come to your house and hold your hand.

The purchase of any of these e-Books entitles you to construct one item for your own personal use. If you are interested in acquiring a manufacturing licence please contact the author via the Magic Nook. Copying and resale of any e-Book is prohibited by International Copyright law.

This page contains effects for those who like to "tinker" with magic, electronics, and things that go "bump" by themselves.

Note: All the items on this page are e-Books (pdf files) of instructions for building the effects, and not the actual prop itself. You make the devices following the author's photos and instructions and get the parts from sources suggested by the authors.

Self-Lighting Candle
by Jolyon Jenkins

In The Wizards' Journal #4, there is an e-Book showing how to make a self-lighting candle that requires you to push a button or work an on-off switch to light a candle electrically. Jolyon Jenkins takes the concept a step further and provides detailed plans to build a radio control receiver into a pillar candle and link it to a keychain transmitter so you can light the candle remotely. So really, it is a Self-Contained Self-Lighting Radio-Controlled Candle. Now that's spooky!

Note: As with all the other items on this page, this is an e-Book of instructions for building the effect, and not the actual prop itself. You make the device following photos and instructions and get the parts from sources suggested by the author. The purchase of any of these e-Books entitles you to construct one item for your own personal use. Automatic Falling Wall Frame
by Jolyon Jenkins

Hanging on the wall of the seance room is a frame containing a photo or painting of your choice. When you decide the time is right, when a sign from the spirit world is needed, for example, the frame suddenly falls off the wall. That's it! That's all it does. But if you know how to milk that event for all it is worth then this is for you. The Magi-tronic "stuff" is built right into the frame so all you have to do is hang it on any wall and trigger the radio control when you want it to fall.

Note: As with all the other items on this page, this is an e-Book of instructions for building the effect, and not the actual prop itself. You make the device following photos and instructions and get the parts from sources suggested by the author. The purchase of any of these e-Books entitles you to construct one item for your own personal use. Timed Falling Desk Frame
by Jolyon Jenkins

By popular request, we offer a falling desk frame, but just to give it a new "twist" this project has two special features that the others don't; a timing mechanism, and an invisible "on/off" switch to start the timer secretly. Even if you don't need a falling desk frame, you might want to use some of the electronics in other projects, such as putting the self-lighting candle on a timer which is invisibly activated whenever you want.

Note: As with all the other items on this page, this is an e-Book of instructions for building the effect, and not the actual prop itself. Radio Controlled Spirit Bell
by Jolyon Jenkins

Unlike Spirit Bells costing hundreds of dollars, you can make this yourself from parts costing less than $40.00 (internet sources included for electronic parts). The tiny bell hangs on a simple wood construction which can be put together by a spectator, and afterwards taken apart by a spectator. On command, the bell rings to answer questions (once for yes, twice for no ) to reveal numbers, or locate playing cards, etc.

Note: As with all the other items on this page, this is an e-Book of instructions for building the effect, and not the actual prop itself. Relightable Remote-control Self-lighting Candle
by Jolyon Jenkins

Item 1, the Self-Lighting Candle, is a good project for beginners, but the candle is limited in that it lights once, then needs to be completely reset to light again. This Relightable RC Candle overcomes that limitation. You can light the candle remotely, blow it out, and then light it again, several times within the same act. The remote control electronics are the same, but the ignition technology is completely different and, I think, novel. It is also not a project for a beginner.

Note: As with all the other items on this page, this is an e-Book of instructions for building the effect, and not the actual prop itself.
